Sci-Fi Valley Con 2016

ALTOONA, Pa. — “Being a geek means never having to play it cool about how much you like something.”  This quote from Simon Pegg couldn’t be truer about a weekend at Sci-Fi Valley Con.  The con took place June 10-12 and was Ghost Base’s first appearance at this con, this definitely wont be their last!  Fun was had by all and no one was hiding their love for nerdy and geeky things alike.

The theme of this years Sci-Fi was to be different, which is also a tribute to the late Steve Jobs.  Everyone there that weekend wasn’t afraid of being themselves, even if that meant being different from the crowd.  Ghost Base had fun venturing the booth, walking around the con in costume and recruiting left and right.  One of the best things about Ghost being at cons is the numerous people that want to join and learn more about the organization.

A highlight of many members was getting to meet and hangout with John Morton, who plays Dak in Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back.  He took pictures, got caught by the Empire, and had maybe too much fun with a lightsaber.

Being a geek is all about your own personal level of enthusiasm, not how your enthusiasm measures up to others.  If you like something so much that a casual mention of it makes your whole being light up like a halogen lamp, if hearing a stranger fondly mention your favorite book or game is instant grounds for friendship, if you have ever found yourself bouncing out of your chair because something you knew blew your mind so hard that you physically could not contain yourself – you are a geek.
